Statement by NoTRAG
regarding the Camp for Climate Action
NoTRAG is a residents' organisation, supported by the London Borough of Hillingdon, which is opposed to the building of a third runway at Heathrow Airport.
The third runway will destroy Sipson Village, part of Harmondsworth and will reduce the size of Harlington. More than 700 homes will be lost in Sipson alone.
NoTRAG believes that Heathrow has reached its capacity and that the building of a third runway would cause so much distress and devastation for a comparatively small gain that the plans should be abandoned.
However, NoTRAG has always used peaceful and lawful ways to protest against the third runway and does not support any illegal direct action or civil disobedience.
In advance of the Camp for Climate Action, NoTRAG was one of the groups summoned to appear in the High Court as part of a proposed injunction, which claimed we were intent on illegal direct action. The court found there was no case for NoTRAG to answer. All NoTRAG's legal costs were met in full by BAA.
Our position on Camp for Climate Action and any protest that breaks the law is clear:
NoTRAG has not and will never support action that is illegal or puts public safety at risk. We also do not condone any actions that intend to cause disruption to residents, the travelling public or local businesses.
